Home  /  Lux Testing (Lighting Levels)

Measure your lighting against the right standard.

Too little light is a health-and-safety and productivity issue; too much wastes energy. A lux survey measures actual illuminance across a space with a calibrated meter and compares it to the recommended levels in CIBSE and HSE guidance, so you know exactly where you stand.

What we measure

Objective light levels, room by room.

We grid the space, take readings at the working plane and report the average and uniformity against the task-appropriate target — then recommend cost-effective improvements where levels fall short.

  • Calibrated illuminance readings. Measured in lux at the working plane across a surveyed grid, not a single spot reading.
  • Compared to guidance. Assessed against CIBSE recommended maintained levels and HSE guidance for the task and area.
  • Uniformity and glare. We flag dark patches, poor uniformity and glare that a headline average would hide.
  • A clear report. Results tabulated by area with practical, energy-aware recommendations to close any gap.

How a survey runs

Grid, measure, report.

STEP 01

Scope

We agree the areas and the task types so the right target level applies to each space.

STEP 02

Survey

Calibrated readings are taken across a measured grid at the working plane, after dark where daylight would skew results.

STEP 03

Assess

Averages and uniformity are compared to CIBSE and HSE targets for each area.

STEP 04

Report

You receive a tabulated report with clear, energy-conscious recommendations.

Common questions

Good to know before you book.

Ask a question
What lighting level do I need?

It depends on the task — CIBSE recommends around 500 lux for general office work, less for circulation and more for detailed tasks. We apply the correct target to each area.

Why survey after dark?

To measure the artificial lighting on its own we take readings when daylight is not contributing, giving a true worst-case result.

Can you fix low levels too?

Yes. Our LED lighting team can design and install improvements, then we can re-survey to confirm the space now meets the target.

Do you cover car parks and warehouses?

Yes. We survey offices, retail, warehouses, car parks, stairwells and communal areas against the appropriate guidance for each.
